‘VISION PLACEMENT No.1’ HANMI Semiconductor received $200 million in exports.

[edaily reporter Kang Kyung-rae] HANMI Semiconductor(042700) announced on the 6th that they won the Tower of $200 million export at the 58th Trade Day ceremony held at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul.

Since its establishment in 1980, HANMI Semiconductor has secured its own semiconductor equipment technology through continuous research and development (R&D) with the aim of localizing semiconductor equipment. As a result, it has grown into Korea's leading semiconductor equipment company that currently deals with 320 semiconductor-related companies around the world.

Particularly, their exports account for an average of 77% of sales in the past decade, as demand for equipment for system semiconductor (non-memory) production continues to increase among global IC (Integrated Circuit) companies along with foundry (semiconductor consignment production) including TSMC of Taiwan. With the application of Anti Vibration Iron Casting (Casting Platform), they has built a mass production system through vertical integration from design to parts processing, software, assembly, and inspection processes is HANMI’s feature.

Kwak Dong-shin, CEO & vice chairman of HANMI Semiconductor, said, "This Tower of $200 million export is the award in 11 years since the Tower of $100 million export in 2010" adding, "The key is that we established semiconductor equipment production system consisting of four factories. We expected large-scale investments by global semiconductor companies and the resulting expansion of semiconductor package (OSAT) companies in advance, Despite the extreme contraction of the internal and external trade environment such as the COVID-19 Pandemic, The U.S.-China trade dispute.”

In fact, the HANMI Semiconductor Equipment Production Cluster has invested 54 billion won (USD 45 mil.) over the past three years, including ‘micro SAW’ factory built in Juan National Industrial Complex in Seo-gu, Incheon in June this year, forming a total of 47,73 square meters (about 12,355 pyeong). Through this, HANMI have a system that can produce up to 2,400 semiconductor equipment annually.

Through such equipment production clusters, HANMI make ‘micro Saw & VISION PLACEMENT’ (MSVP), the world's No. 1 equipment in market share, ‘EMI SHIELD’ adopted by global IT (information technology) companies, ‘TC BONDER’ and ‘FLIP CHIP BONDER’ apply to semiconductor 3D (3dimension) packages. In addition, they have established a production line for height ratio and inspection equipment such as 'STRIP GRINDER' that processes substrates adopted for VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality) glass. Also, they operate their own parts processing plant that makes essential parts used in equipment.

Meanwhile, Boston Consulting Group, a global consulting firm, predicted that foundry prices will steadily increase by 2023. System semiconductors account for about 90% of total sales of HANMI semiconductors.

An official from HANMI Semiconductor said, "In the future, the growth of the global semiconductor market and the expansion of system semiconductors and foundry will have a positive impact on the growth of HANMI Semiconductor performance.", and “Continuous growth and development will be possible in the future.”
